Full Spectrum Warm (2700k) - Flowering Stage

What is a CFL?

A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), also known as a compact fluorescent light bulb or an energy saving lightbulb, is a type of fluorescent lamp that fits into a standard light bulb socket or plugs into a small lighting fixture.

In comparison to incandescent light bulbs, CFLs have a longer rated life and use less electricity. In fact, CFLs save enough money in electricity costs to make up for their higher initial price within about 500 hours of use.

GrowKing CFL’s have been manufactured to provide you with a complete solution to your horticultural lighting needs. GrowKing has developed three different sizes of lamp to allow for use in a wide range of horticultural settings, for example:

The relatively low heat levels emitted from CFL’s allows you to place your lamp within a few inches of the canopy, this means that light is absorbed directly by the plant and not lost as ‘waste energy’.

Use GrowKing CFL’s for propagation of seedling and cuttings, without risk of too much heat energy (often caused by using HID’s) on young, sensitive plants.

GrowKing CFL’s also offer a complete horticultural lighting solution and can be used to grow plants in all stages of their life cycle, from seedling to flower or fruit.

Our CFL's can also be used in conjunction with High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide lamps.
Using solely HPS (or MH) lamps do have some associated disadvantages:

  • The spectrum of light given off by Sodium lamps is for the major part in the red spectrum of the light range. Although this promotes strong flowering it also means that plants ‘stretch’ very quickly and do not stay short and dense. This can be a serious problem for people growing with limits on height.
  • GrowKing CFL’s offer a far safer form of plant lighting. Fire hazard is greatly reduced when compared with HPS sytems.

By supplementing your HPS setup with GrowKing CFL’s you are providing your plants with a more lifelike representation of sunlight, thus keeping your plants healthy and preventing some of the disadvantages associated with ‘stretching’.

Impact of Light Colour on Plant Growth

The following table gives an indication of how different light spectrums can be beneficial to your plants in different stages of their life cycle:

CCT in Kelvin (K) Light Colour Effect
5000-8000
Deep Blue Encourages excellent leaf and stem growth
4000-5000
Light Blue Encourages good leaf and Stem growth
4000
Neutral White Promotes normal growth
3700-4000
Warm Neutral Promotes rapid growth
3000-3700
Warmer Yellow Neutral Highly active photosynthesis for all stages of growth
1500-3000
Hot orange or red Promotes strong flowering

GrowKing CFL’s can also be used in conjunction with each other to provide a whole range of spectrum opportunities.
